Rare 8 volume set of Voltaire Dictionnaire Philosophique, 1789. Each book measures 16.5 cm tall, 10.5" wide. Voltaire's "Dictionnaire Philosophique" was one of his most controversial works. It was censored and often destroyed when it was first anonomously published by Marc-Michel Rey in 1764. This is the rarely found 8 volume edition from 1789 also published by Marc-Michel Rey in Amsterdam. The full title is "Dictionnaire Philosophique, Par M. De Voltaire. Nouvelle Edition, plus complette que toutes les precedentes." In very good condition with all volumes present. Volume one has some tears and losses to spine. All volumes have bumped and rubbed corners the green board covers are also rubbed. Hinges in all volumes are strong. Leather spines have been hand alphabetized in ink. $950.
